Measurements of A Cubic Yard of Concrete:

- 36″ x 36″ x 36″
- 27 cubic feet
- 46,656 cubic inches
- Weight is 3975 3,975 pounds
These measurements are important to the guys supplying concrete because they calculate the yardage they’re going to need in a pour.
Patio With 4in Slab Example: The depth of a patio is four inches. If we divide the height of the cubic yard by 4in sections there will be 9 sections. If the 9 sections are laid out then the surface area will equal 81 square feet.
Usually, the concrete guy will be told the desired square footage and then he will divide that by the cubic yard
Patio with 6in Slab Example: The depth of the patio is 6 inches. If we divide the height of the cubic yard by 6in sections there will be 6 sections. Each slab will be 3′ x 3′ x 6″ with a total square footage of 54 ft.
4in Slab Calculations:
1st equation: 0.0123 x total square foot. 0.0123 = (4 x 12 x 12) / cubic inches of cubic yard
2nd equation: total square feet / 81
